In 2019 Juul | Frost Architects were selected by STRELKA KB to design a new urban neighbourhood at the Oktyabrsky Island in Kaliningrad.
The project comprises the overall structure of the neighbourhood, green courtyards and urban spaces more than 3500 detailed drawn dwellings, 10 kindergartens, a school, commercial spaces, a hotel and hotel apartments, all designed with a consistent focus on well-being and social sustainability.
The classical grid is downscaled through green corridors and the neighbourhood is disposed with semi-public courtyards and public urban spaces in order to promote quality of life and creates a safe urban environment for the future citizens.
Juul | Frost Architects have designed 3500 compact and adaptable quality dwelling in various sizes to accommodate singles, elderly people, students and families. The individual dwelling is design with an optimal inflow of light, and the majority are lit from both sides. All apartments have access to either a balcony, private terrace or roof-top terrace.
The Oktyabrsky island is a pilot area for the Russian government’s new ’Standard of Integrated Development of Territories’: A scheme JUUL | FROST Architects already contributed to with urban studies in 2017.
