Som et af de vigtigste stoppesteder på den traditionsrige jernbanelinje mellem København og Roskilde har banegården i Hedehusene været et omdrejningspunkt for handel, hånd- værk og rejsetrafik lige siden 1850’erne. Især murstensindustrien i Hedehusene profiterede fra konstruktionen af jernbanenetværket. I dag har mange banegårde dog mistet deres prominente rolle i bylandskabet, gennem et stigende antal virksomheder, som tilbyder transport og flere og flere private biler.
