World Trade Center Helsingborg / Scandic Hotel
World Trade Center / Scandic Hotel has a consistent focus on sustainability from construction to the 70% plant-based food served in the hotel restaurant.
The World Trade Center's 13 floors are the first thing the eye meets at the entrance to Helsingborg harbour. With a prominent location at the far end of Oceanhamnen, a few minutes from the city centre, the architecture is a marker for the city's new leading climate district.
The more than 50-metre-high building, which can be seen from land and at sea, was designed by Juul Frost Architects for Granitor.
A new lighthouse
As the name suggests, the World Trade Center houses the World Trade Center as well as Scandic Hotel. The building is a meeting place for entrepreneurs, start-ups and established companies as well as a destination in the Øresund Region for business and weekend trips.
The 14,700 m2 building comprises 7,800 m2 of hotel with 184 rooms and 4,500 m2 of offices, including coworking spaces. The hotel and offices have a shared reception, conference department, relax and gym and more. A restaurant with outdoor seating and a roof terraces enriches urban life and work life.
An expressive facade for a prominent position
The prominent location places great demands on the building's architecture as well as functions. Our ambition has been to create an expressive architecture to fit the city’s new visual landmark, but also to create a building that gives the city's citizens a future destination in the city.
The architectural expression is based on the idea of a heavy base and a light tower. The first six floors make up the brick base, which in its scale and materiality relates to the surrounding blocks. The tower challenges the lower façade with its expressive pattern of large glass sections that cut into the white façade and create a playful counterpoint to the heavy and repeating hotel façade.
Sustainability-certified at gold level and Nordic Swan Ecolabel
World Trade Center / Scandic Hotel has a consistent focus on sustainability from construction to the 70% plant-based food served in the hotel restaurant. As a result, the hotel has been certified with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel – the official eco-label throughout the Nordic region.
Construction must be sustainable and promote sustainable behavior among users. At World Trade Center Helsingborg, our ambition for sustainable architecture that promotes health and well-being meets physical surroundings that promote sustainable choice. Energy optimization and registration of building materials have been among the crucial parameters for the Sustainability Certification of World Trade Center Helsingborg.
