Fuglekvarteret
Between parkland, houses and former industry, Fuglekvarteret is being built — Hvidovre's new mixed-use urban district with residential and commercial buildings alongside neighbourhood streets and climate gardens.
Fuglekvarteret will be a vibrant urban district with variations in building height, massing and façade expression throughout the entire neighbourhood. There is room for both the smaller scale with two-storey buildings, as well as residential developments of five storeys. Some façades will feature a grid pattern referencing the area's industrial history, others are divided with brick on the lower floors and lighter materials on the upper floors, while some are built simply with brick or cladding tiles.
With 409 new apartments ranging from 1 to 5 rooms, there is space for families with children, singles, students and seniors alike.
The landscape of Fuglekvarteret is conceived as an extension of Mågeparken, where green recreational areas, varied planting and meeting places support community life and everyday living. The area is closely connected both internally and with the surrounding green structures through good accessibility.
Climate adaptation is integrated into the landscape with solutions that manage rainwater while simultaneously adding recreational value, for example through climate gardens. Wild planting is drawn into the urban structure, creating character, biodiversity and a sense of continuity across the neighbourhood's streets and spaces.
At the same time, the reuse of existing materials is integrated into the landscape, where paving stones and concrete elements, among other things, are repurposed as part of the area's new identity.
