Rest Area Börringe – An Irresistible Stop on the Journey
Börringe's new rest area will be an irresistible stop that enriches the journey. The new rest area will have a distinct identity that enhances and conveys the site's history, the presence of nature, and the biological heritage. The rest area of the future is an invitation to rest, mental breaks, nature experiences, learning, and movement. In short: a stop that promotes our well-being and traffic safety.
The rest area should be an attractive, functional, and poetic pause on the journey.
The Rest Area of the Future is Gently Integrated into the Landscape
The design of the rest area is inspired by the surrounding natural and cultural landscape. The Ice Age shaped the large dead ice landscape with forests, hills, valleys, and ponds. Later, humans left their cultural marks in the agricultural landscape with fields and avenues. Amidst the orderly plow furrows and tractor tracks, islands of nature and history still emerge in the characteristic hedgerows: small pauses of wild nature that provide orientation in the cultivated landscape. The rest area gently follows the terrain and enhances the existing features of the landscape: The parking zone is placed on the existing flat part of the site, and hedgerows are established in the more undulating terrain. The building is situated on a plateau in between.
The Rest Area of the Future Conveys the Stories of the Vast Landscape
The landscape-adapted rest area merges the site's unique cultural and natural historical layers with today's needs for infrastructure and rest. It is designed as a holistic approach, where landscape architecture, traffic planning, and architecture reflect the rational lines of the cultivated landscape and the soft morphology of the hedgerows. The rest area is a nature-based learning landscape that conveys the region's cultural and natural history.
The Rest Area of the Future is Safe and Promotes Well-being on the Journey
The rest area should be an attractive, functional, and poetic pause on the journey. Therefore, it is designed with safety, security, comfort, and experiences in mind, regardless of the time of year or day. The rest area provides places to stay in both sun and shade, as well as shelter and protection. Research shows that movement and breaks in nature stimulate physical activity, and short stays in green surroundings reduce stress levels. Therefore, the area is designed so you can stretch your legs on the nature trail or take a mental break in one of the green oases.
The new rest area is designed as a holistic approach, where the interplay between technical and traffic conditions creates the framework for an aesthetic nature experience.
