Safe urban spaces for everyone, the many and the few

'Safe urban spaces for everyone, the many and the few' aims to inspire everyone who works with urban development to strengthen safety and security in our cities. Planners and other professionals also get input on how the work with safety, security and crime prevention can be put into practice.

More and more people are gathering in our cities, we are moving closer together, and diversity is increasing. This development challenges the relationship with our fellow citizens, and it has an impact on our experience of security and our sense of safety.

Therefore, safety and security must be put on the agenda when we plan and develop our cities and urban spaces - Both in tenders, competitions, plans and architecture policies. Ensuring a focus on safety is an important task for everyone involved in planning the safe cities of the future.

Juul Frost Architects has made the publication 'Safe urban spaces for everyone, the many and the few', which is aimed broadly at politicians, urban planners, architects and advisers.

With a holistic approach across scales, the publication examines how safety and security can be strengthened.

The publication contains:

Cases across urban development and urban spaces that provide inspiration to work with safety in urban development;

Interviews with professionals who contribute different professional perspectives on safety in the city's spaces;

Inspiration from urban space theorists who have had a influence on our way of planning and on the design of the city's space

and recommendations to put safety and security on the political agenda and implement safety-creating and crime-preventing measures.

'Safe urban spaces for everyone, the many and the few' has been developed in close collaboration with a advisory group with representatives from the Architects' Association, BUILD - department of the built environment at Aalborg University, BL - Denmark's Public Housing Association, The Danish Town Planning Institute and Danish National Police.

Optic Circus has produced two animated films that complement the publication.
