In Hedehusene, the station square has been given new life. The transformation of the square takes it’s starting point in the local industrial history, and the transformation has created attraction value that benefits the citizens as well as the many travelers.
The town of Hedehusene is bisected by heavy traffic making physical connections across town difficult. Therefore, it has been crucial for the future branding of the city to create a coherent and identity-giving urban space.
The station square has been transformed from a transit space into a destination in itself. A vibrant and attractive urban space, that makes people want to get off the train, bus and bicycle, in other words: to slow down - and stop. The space is designed so that it constitutes an informal invitation to all passers-by and invites to informal stays on stairs as well as on benches. The renewal has been about creating meeting places that promote the informal meeting and a safe atmosphere.
Through the unifying urban space, a coherent surface in warm red bricks, the new square celebrates the city’s cultural heritage as a brick producer through its materiality - The square has been given a new strong identity, and have become a place with a common frame of reference in history.
